Known as the Red Sticks, generally likely because of the their red-painted war clubs, the Upper Creeks were driven by outstanding boss, for example, Peter McQueen and William Weatherford (Red Eagle). As the Red Sticks fled into the marshes around Burnt Corn Creek, the Americans stopped to plunder the enemys camp. Seeing this, McQueen revitalized his warriors and counterattacked. Overpowered, Callers men had to withdraw. Fortress Mims Massacre - The American Defenses: Enraged by the assault at Burnt Corn Creek, McQueen started arranging an activity against Fort Mims. Developed on high ground close to Lake Tensaw, Fort Mims was arranged on the east bank of the Alabama River north of Mobile. Comprising of a barricade, brick house, and sixteen different structures, Fort Mims gave security to more than 500 individuals including a volunteer army power numbering around 265 men. Directed by Major Daniel Beasley, a legal counselor in terms of professional career, a considerable lot of the fortresses occupants, including Dixon Bailey, were blended race and part Creek. Propelling west, McQueen was joined by the prominent boss William Weatherford (Red Eagle). Having around 750-1,000 warriors, they moved towards the American station and arrived at a point six miles away on August 29. Seeking shelter in tall grass, the Creek power was spotted by two slaves who were tending dairy cattle. Hustling back to the stronghold, they educated Beasley of the enemys approach. In spite of the fact that Beasley dispatched mounted scouts, they neglected to discover any hint of the Red Sticks. Rankled, Beasley requested the slaves rebuffed for giving bogus data. Drawing nearer through the evening, the Creek power was almost set up by sunset. After dull, Weatherford and two warriors moved toward the fortifications dividers and explored the inside by glancing through the provisos in the barricade. Finding that the gatekeeper was remiss, they likewise saw that the primary entryway was open as it was obstructed from totally shutting by a bank of sand. Coming back to the fundamental Red Stick power, Weatherford arranged the assault for the following day. Fortress Mims Massacre - Blood in the Stockade: The following morning, Beasley was again made aware of the methodology of a Creek power by nearby scout James Cornells. Ignoring this report, he endeavored to have Cornells captured, yet the scout quickly withdrew the post. Around early afternoon, the fortresses drummer gathered the battalion for the late morning feast. This was utilized as the assault signal by the Creek. Flooding forward, they quickly progressed on the fortress with a large number of the warriors assuming responsibility for the escape clauses in the barricade and starting to shoot. This gave spread to other people who effectively penetrated the open entryway. The main Creeks to enter the stronghold were four warriors who had been honored to get invulnerable to projectiles. In spite of the fact that they were struck down, they quickly deferred the army while their confidants filled the fortification. In spite of the fact that some later asserted he had been drinking, Beasley endeavored to mobilize a protection at the entryway and was struck down from the get-go in the battling. Taking order, Bailey and the posts army involved its inward guards and structures. Mounting an obstinate resistance, they eased back the Red Stick assault. No Cigarettes, No Smoking Free Essays

The mischief of smoking is a hot issue which has being talked about in numerous nations for quite a while. There are 1. 2 billion of smokers in this world, which is one-fifth of the total populace. We will compose a custom exposition test on No Cigarettes, No Smoking or then again any comparable subject just for you Request Now The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention detailed that grown-up male smokers lost a normal of 13. 2 years of life and female smokers lost 14. 5 years of life as a result of smoking. Despite the fact that individuals realize that cigarette is terrible for wellbeing, they despite everything have opportunity of smoking. These days, both delivering and smoking cigarettes are without still decisions particularly in America in light of the fact that as Americans we initially ensure our opportunities and the administration gives us rights to pick our own particular manners of life incorporate the free market economy for creating cigarettes and the opportunity of smoking. Be that as it may, cigarettes have no good thing for wellbeing. It kills the smokers themselves as well as damages the non-smokers by breathing recycled smokers, which ought to be considered as murder. So governments should make law to quit creating cigarettes totally. Smoking cigarettes may build the danger of numerous medical issues. As indicated by the 1982 United States Surgeon General’s report, â€Å"Cigarette smoking is the significant single reason for malignant growth mortality [death] in the United States. † Cigarette smoking is the main source of 90% of lung diseases which is probably the hardest malignant growth to treat and others tumors in the mouth, larynx, throat, kidney. It might likewise cause coronary illness, aneurysms and stroke, and so on. Moreover, breathing used smoke is likewise unsafe, much the same as the 2006 US Surgeon General’s report said that the used smoke murders kids and grown-ups who don’t smoke. In this way, we should figure out how to spare the lives of the smokers and shield the non-smokers from smoking. There are as of now assortment approaches to control smoking, yet none of these thoughts can quit smoking totally. For instance, individuals figure schools should show children and adolescents the damages of smoking since training is the most ideal approach to keep their kids far from cigarettes. All the secondary schools in United States have wellbeing class which shows young people the medical issues that would brought about by smoking. I recall that when I was in secondary school, we had two speakers revealing to us their smoking encounters. They are two elderly people men who had smoked or numerous years and when they conversed with us, they needed to inhale through a gap in their throat. After that class, I felt that I despise smoking considerably more than previously, and I accepted that class would help propel youngsters to escape from cigarettes. Notwithstanding, t here are as yet numerous high school smokers who don’t care enough about their own wellbeing, they simply need to get the momentary energy however never consider the drawn out impacts. As indicated by Harris’s explanation in â€Å"The Tipping Point†, even early training of perils of smoking doesn’t work so well. â€Å"Telling young people about the wellbeing dangers of smoking †It will make you wrinkled! It will make you barren! It will make you dead! †is useless† (The Tipping Point 249). This reveals to us another fact which is that kids don’t care about what grown-ups are stating, however what they are doing. It is inconceivable for grown-ups to create and smoke cigarettes, and show the kids not to smoke simultaneously. Tobacco items in the UAE found another approach to demoralize smoking. They convey designs of darkened lungs and a drained affected mind on cigarette packs to caution the smokers about the threats of smoking. This is just a token of the risks of smoking however not an activity to stop it. Smokers will purchase cigarettes regardless of what realistic is on the pack, and the issue of smoking will be still there unsolved. Making law to boycott smoking appears as though a smart thought and numerous administrations have doing it. Singapore is the best case of smoking boycott and it has been stretched out to practically all the open spots. As indicated by the current law of smoking boycott in Singapore, â€Å"Smokers discovered ridiculing the principles are fined a base S $200 Singapore dollar up to a limit of S$1000 whenever sentenced in court, while the directors of the foundations are fined S$200 for a first offense, and S$500 for a resulting offense. This thought is obviously superior to other people. In any case, the issue is that regardless of what discipline is it, on the off chance that somebody needs to have a cigarette, they will consistently discover a spot to smoke. Other than the models that I referenced above, in Gladwell’s book, he likewise states num erous different things that individuals have gone after for controlling smoking. â€Å"The hostile to smoking development has concentrated, up until this point, on raising cigarette costs, reducing cigarette promoting, running general wellbeing messages on radio and TV, restricting access of cigarettes to minors, and penetrating enemy of tobacco messages into schoolchildren. (TP 250) If any of these thoughts have been worked out, we won’t be talking about smoking issue now. I accept that all the techniques incorporate the counter smoking development are useful to control smoking and dishearten individuals to smoke less. In any case, we need to confront reality which is that once there are individuals creating cigarettes, there will be individuals smoking. Truth be told cigarette is the liable specialist and it ought not be created. Along these lines, quit delivering cigarettes is the main answer for tackle the smoking issue altogether and spare people’s lives. Before, we need to utilize a wide range of approaches to dishearten smoking since individuals smoke for various reasons. Be that as it may, if there’s no cigarette in this planet, individuals who smoke for easing pressure and boosting state of mind will discover other sound exercises to do to loosen up themselves as opposed to smoking. Numerous adolescents who smoke on the grounds that they’re inquisitive, need to take a stab at something perilous, or to act like grown-ups, won’t have these sorts of musings at all if nobody around them smoke. What's more, for the overwhelming smokers who are as of now dependent and neglected to stop smoking, there will be no more allurement. Since here is an answer which can take care of the considerable number of issues one after another, why don’t we attempt it? Quit creating cigarettes will influence the advantages of the Cigarettes Company makers and the administrations, and it might likewise prompt joblessness in tobacco industry, so it is the governments’ obligation to make a law of it to lead and urge all the individuals incorporate the makers and the smokers to rehearse together and make this arrangement works. In spite of the fact that it's anything but a simple activity and it must require some investment to be done, we should begin from little advance and make it work out as expected, on the grounds that regardless of which nation we are from, as human we assume to have at any rate one regular worth that wellbeing is substantially more significant than material advantages, in certainty it is the most significant thing in everyone’s life. Memorialization Reflection - 1327 Words

I have decided to evaluate our memorialization reflection. The plan we collectively decided was that the memorial service would include four speakers: a surviving victim of the attacks, a first responder, the President, and the Mayor of DC. The service would be a candlelight vigil held on the Archives. We had The Coalition of 7/2 Victim s families bring members of victim’s families to share their stories about their losses. The U.S Parks Department would place names and photos around the service area and we would also have a children’s choir to come and sing the National Anthem. The pattern’s framework being the family, then friends and co-workers, followed by formal agencies and other people outside the victims immediate circle. The second dimension distinguishes between emotional, informational, and tangible support (Norris and Pfefferbaum p.138). Received support increases in the aftermath of crises and protects against erosion of perceived support, which Norris and Kaniasty cite as a powerful protective factor for mental health. Norris goes on to say that received support is most helpful when there is a balance between receiving and providing support. Frequently receiving support can threaten self-esteem, and being too much on the providing side creates stress, which has a negative effect on community resilience. Bartleby Is A Victim Of The Capitalist Way Of Life

In a society where work is portrayed as needed, individuals that prefer not to are seen as rebels and enemies of the capitalist way of life. I think that Bartleby is a victim of this capitalist way of life, him and the Queen are cultural rebels, they represent the absurdity of work and the necessity of identity. First and foremost, Capitalism wants people to work it doesn’t want people to prefer not to work, the working man needs to work in order for the economy to keep on rolling. The rich men of capitalism want the working man to keep on working for their money to come in. Without work capitalism crashes. That is why Bartleby is thrown in prison, this is why he is constantly persecuted and questioned by the narrator, the narrator is confused because he is used to capitalism and it’s way of working, Bartleby is nothing but the odd one out of this system. When Bartleby stops producing copies, his life slowly gets worst, it leads him to go in prison and rot for the rest of his days. Bartleby lives in a society that wants nothing but constant production. He is crushed by the money-making monster that is capitalism. No one wants Bartleby to work in their establishment because he doesn’t want to work. To this society someone who does not want to work is regarded as a lazy pe rson who leeches off of others. Peter Essay Example For Students

Peter Essay What a great honor it must have been to be one of the twelve apostles. Peter loved Jesus very much and his heart was in the right place but when push came to shove he froze and denied knowing Jesus because of fear for his own life. The apostles had become comfortable by Jesus side and seeing his miracles I think they believed that everything would work out smoothly but when the high priest guards took Jesus away I think they all realized that things were going to be different and feared the unknown. Another point that I felt was important about Peter was that after the resurrection Jesus asked him if he loved him three times and Peter answered yes twice and the third time Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Peter was one of the sons of Jonas and the brother of Andrew. His trade was that of a fisherman in partnership with his brother Andrew, and friends James and John. He was not an educated man but he was sharp and very dedicated in his beliefs. His heart felt emotions were strong and usually his reactions were controlled from them. Peters heart was an example of the beatitude, which talks of someone who is pure in heart he, was motivated from the inside out. Peter was a very bold and straight forward man with a short temper and shows this several different times within his life. He was not afraid to speak when his heart led him. One of these times was when he sees Jesus walking on the sea and asks him to if he can join him. Another was when he tries to change Jesus mind about the tribulations he will endure Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou mindest not the things of God, but the thins of men.Jesus is washing the disciples feet and he starts to wash Peters and Peter tells him that does not believe Christ should be washing his feet. Peter cuts off the right ear of Malchus at Gethsemane when he believes that he has come to harm Jesus. As Peter matured and learned from the Master I agree with Alexander Whyte that Peters too-hot heart was gradually brought under control till it became the seat in Peters bosom of a deep, pure, deathless love and adoration for Jesus Christ. The color therapy

Introduction Currently, the color therapy is recognized as an effective natural healing technique widely used in medicine and counseling.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The color therapy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This report will track the historical development of the chromotherapy theories and evaluate the results of the experiment and the impact of different colors upon the energy distribution in natural field under different environmental conditions which can be further used in the counseling practice. Literature review Color therapy also referred to as chromotherapy is based on the assumption that color and light can be used for balancing the energy within the human bodies and preventing or healing the mental and physical disorders and has been known since ancient times. There is evidence that ancient Egyptians and Greeks built color healing rooms into their temples (Wills 2007). The first records o n using color as therapy can be found in works by Aulus Celsus dated back to the 1st century in Rome (Garala et al. 2009). The relationships between the colors, diseases and their treatments were investigated by the Arab physician Avicenna in the 9th century. A system of colored lights known as spectro-chrome lamps was created in 1920 by an American scientist of the Indian origin Dinshah Chadiali (Garala et al. 2009). A color test introduced by a Swiss psychologist Max Luscher in 1947 is still used by consultants for defining the psychological state of their patients. A Russian researcher Krakow made a significant contribution to the studies on the color therapy by investigating the effects of different colors upon the nervous system. Though this approach can be criticized for the lack of rigorous studies, many practitioners utilize Krakov’s findings and take advantages of the color therapy for reducing the stress-related pain (Garala et al. 2009).Advertising Looking for report on psychology? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The color therapy theories create the links between the seven colors of the spectrum and the main chakras in the human body which in their turn are associated with certain organs and systems. The main task of the practitioner is defining the missing color for diagnosing the corresponding weakness of a particular organ and applying the color therapy for making up the existing deficits (McGuiness 2007, p. 14). Moreover, there is a growing recognition that due to the power of electromagnetic signals such as color, chromotherapy can be even more effective than the traditional methods of treatment (Lipton, 2005; Vasquez, 2006). Though the patient’s cultural background and current emotional and physical state are the factors deserving serious consideration while developing a concrete treatment plan, the color therapy can be used for changing the patients’ condition (Gal ano 2009). Saito Tada (2007) noted that the colors associated with natural scenes and landscapes can be effective stimulators for Japanese people because of the value given to nature in Japanese culture. With the roots which can be found in the culture of ancient civilizations, color therapy which has been rediscovered in the mid-nineteenth century is widely used in modern psychology and consulting for the purposes of diagnosing and treating the patients. Conceptual framework The ancient Chinese Five Phase Theory can be regarded as a conceptual framework for explaining the processes attributed to the color therapy and enhancing their effectiveness.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The color therapy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The Five Phase Theory assuming that the properties of the five phases, including wood, fire, earth, metal and water allow explaining all the phenomena of the surrounding world which a re mutually interdependent and restraining (Flaws 2007, p. 15). This theory introduces a complex mechanism driving transformations in nature and human organism. Each of the phases corresponds to certain chakras and organs and psychological conditions. According to this doctrine, there are two main cycles of interaction, namely generating and overcoming. Similar to the Five Phase Theory, modern chromotherapy correlates chakras with certain organs, conditions and colors of the individual’s aura (McGuiness 2007). Thus, red corresponding with the first chakra can encourage both positive qualities such as courage and perseverance and negative qualities such as stubbornness, cruelty and anger, which in their turn can be related to the cycles of generating and overcoming respectively. Yellow corresponding with the third chakra can have impact upon the feelings of detachment and person’s concentration, agitation and anxiety. Green corresponding with the forth chakra allows har monizing, relaxation and concentration, whereas too much of green color can make an individual suffer from lethargy and jealousy. Blue corresponding with the fifth chakra can encourage either the state of peace or doubt and melancholy. From the above discussed examples, it can be seen that the two possible cycles of the Five Phase Theory should be considered for the effective use of chromotherapy in counseling.Advertising Looking for report on psychology? The 7 pieces of white bread were put into the transparent containers with multicolored lids fully covering them. A container with a transparent lid was added for controlling the achieved results. The picture of the changes in the bread color and surface were taken every 7days. The experiment was conducted in four apartments with conditions varying in relative humidity and intensity of sunlight for evaluating the impact of environment upon the outcomes. Analysis and discussion Through the analysis of the achieved results, it has been discovered that the color of the lid had a significant impact upon the natural processes within the pieces of bread reflected in the color changes and the growth of mould. The findings of the experiment can be related to the cycles of generating and overcoming as outlined by the Five Phase Theory. Estimating the transformation of the pieces of bread placed in the same apartment, it can be stated that the red color accelerated the growth of mould, whereas green lid had restrained the mould growth and even prevented its formation in the apartment with the intense sunlight and lower humidity facing the West. At the final day of the experiment, three weeks after its beginning, the piece of bread in the container with the red lid in the apartment with the lower humidity and the intense sunlight, changed its color completely and became golden yellow and black which indicate the beginning of the mould formation. At the same time, the piece of bread in the container under the yellow lid was whole brown, under the blue and white lids the pieces became whole black, the whole yellow piece of bread was found under the black lid, and there was no any changes of the color and signs of mould in the container under the green lid. It is significant that a piece of bread in the container under the transparent lid was largely yellow with black mould on it. The findings retrieved from the control container clearly demonstrate that the color lids have a significant impact upon the energy distribution within the natural fields. Similar principles of the mould growth were observed in the rest of the apartments with different levels of humidity and intensity of sunlight, whereas the results of the mould growth ranging from the most significant in the container under the transparent lid, followed by the results achieved from the container with the red, black, white, blue and yellow colors. The achieved results are compliant with the main principles implemented by modern chromotherapy assuming that red is the color of agitation and acceleration of growth, whereas green is recognized as a color restraining the growth. Though the mould grew completely around the yellow and blue boxes i n the apartments with the higher humidity and where the electric light was used, the colors of the grown mould were relatively monotonous. It can be explained with the fact that blue and yellow are regarded as the colors of calming and relaxing which are widely used in modern chromotherapy for psychological counseling. Conclusion Though the intensity of sunlight and the level of humidity had a significant impact upon the results of the experiment, it can be concluded that the research findings have revealed that different colors affect the processes of energy distribution in different ways which are however compliant with the basic principles of modern chromotherapy. Self-reflection with critical points Though the design of the experiment was intended to take into account the variety of factors, including the environmental conditions, it has certain limitations. Thus, certain unpredictable variables, namely the weather could influence the achieved results but were neglected in the e xperiment. Other drawbacks of the study design which can be considered as its limitations were the lack of the planning and registering details and disregard of additional sources of the energy input, including the TV and mobile phones, interference of the family members and others. The findings of this experiment which are compliant with the main principles of the modern theories on color healing are valuable for the current chromotherapy practices. The results of the experiment clearly demonstrate that various colors can have a significant impact upon the energy distribution and other processes taking place in the physical environment, and consequently, can be applied as effective healing techniques by modern counselors. Another valuable conclusion which can be drawn from the conducted experiment is that the choice of the most appropriate color healing techniques requires consideration of a variety of the related factors, including the patients’ cultural background, environ ment and personal preferences. Thus, Luscher’s color test can be used by counselors for detecting the existing deficits and diagnosing the patient’s current condition. The following steps presuppose selecting the methods for solving the existing problems and their implementation through color healing. However, it should be noted that the excessive amounts of certain colors can have the adverse effects which can be explained by the integrity of the generating and overcoming cycles of the Five Phase Theory. Thus, red can not only agitate and activate the mental processes if it is necessary, but also result in cruelty and anger, whereas green which is expected to have calming and harmonizing effects can also result in lethargy and jealousy. The above discussed aspects should be considered for selecting the most appropriate techniques of color healing for every individual customer and applying them to the counseling practice. Being Assertive instead of Being Aggressive at Work Essay

Being Assertive instead of Being Aggressive at Work - Essay Example When going for a career start, it is important to understand the present day workplace. The 21st-century workplace is diverse in terms of culture, race, and gender; it is global. Employees must be prepared to deal with people from any part of the world confidently and without bias. One should enter a career with a positive attitude towards teamwork. Organizational success depends on teamwork and communication is the key to a good team spirit development. Career development in the world of new technology depends on one’s ability to adapt to the new technology. All individuals preparing for any career should keep the above points in mind in order to become successful professionals. INTRODUCTION Workplace environment greatly affects the well being, health, productivity and motivation to work in the employees (Jones, 2001). The workplace environment is a factor in the behavior of employees, therefore, it is up to them to maintain a healthy workplace environment. According to (Scot t & Judge, 2006), the personal traits and the affective states experiences by people in organizational setups determine the quality of workplace atmosphere. To play their role in contributing towards a healthy workplace environment, one should enter any career after being well prepared to deal with the challenges of a workplace (Jones. 2001). Self-mastery, conquering control on persona; traits via personal and independent victories of self-control is basic and very important if one wants to reach the level of interdependence in an organization (Covey, 1989). 1. BEING ASSERTIVE INSTEAD OF AGGRESSIVE AT WORK Assertiveness is the key to respectful survival in the workplace (Weinberg & Cooper, 2007). Assertiveness is sometimes confused with aggressiveness. In reality, there is a difference between the two. Aggression refers to pushing others to get what one wants, while assertiveness means to stand up for one’s rights, still respecting the other’s point of view. Assertiven ess is a way of communicating what one wants respectfully but firmly (Sparks, et al; 2001). According to one study by Rabin & Zelner (1992), assertiveness is a major contributing factor in job satisfaction. Training in assertiveness can not only help in enhancing work productivity of an employee but can also contribute towards a successful career (Rabin & Zelner, 1992). Though the line separating aggressiveness and assertiveness may be thin, the consequential implications of both behaviors are contrasting. The result of aggression is usually negative feelings in others and both parties not getting what they want while assertion leads to what one wants without conflict and in such a way that the other party does not feel defeated (Glomb, 2002). 2. BEING PROACTIVE IN CAREER According to Covey (1989), change always originates from within; so it is best to identify what one can do instead of attempting to do whatever comes in one’s way. A proactive disposition, according to Bandu ra (2001; cited in Stadtler, et al, 2010) refers to bring change and complete tasks by one’s actions.

Social week 6 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Social week 6 - Essay Example Mortgage rates spiked up and stock prices fell when the news of tapering hit the market. The Fed though is denying such charges. It is very much unlikely that the Fed will begin its tapering anytime in the near future. But if we assume such an event occurs in the near future, it will put an end to the low interest rates in the mortgage market. The private market will then come back in and come back in strong. There is a huge gap of $85 billion a month and that has to be filled up by someone. When the news of tapering hit the market back in May, 2013, mortgage REITS which made profits by borrowing short term and lending long term mortgages, fell endangering the $ 40 billion industry (The Department of Treasury and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2011). So if the Fed begins its tapering anytime in the near future, mortgage REITS have to raise their rates or rather will be forced to raise their rates or else their business will liquidate. The housing market will then t ake a big hit by the rise in the mortgage rates. The May, 2013 news had already made home buyers stop paying their mortgages and the home owners stopped refinancing. The housing market has clearly slowed down since May, 2013 and has showed no signs of regaining the past momentum (Wallison and Pinto, 2012). The US is the only country in the developed world to have such a troubled housing market. It is also probably the only developed country to have a major government role in housing policy. â€Å"Affordable housing† and other policies related to housing has turned the healthy US market into a financial ruin. Moreover the factors that caused the financial crisis are still in force and until those and the government’s role in housing are eliminated, it is very difficult for the US housing market to return back to normalcy (Wallison and Pinto, 2012). Housing finance is largely handled by the private sector in most

Tj Eckleburg Essay Example for Free

Tj Eckleburg Essay The eyes of TJ Eckleburg symbolizes the destruction of the American Dream. Evidence: Billboard fading, Main characters going into NYC to commit corruption and the Eyes looking upon the death of Myrtle. Like spiritual values, the billboard is neglected. â€Å"But his eyes, dimmed a little by many paintless days, under sun and rain, brood on over the solemn dumping ground†. â€Å"This is a valley of ashes – a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of ash-grey men, who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. † The hollowness that the author describes the eyes and how its faded represents the neglect and destruction of the American dream and how it looks upon only the material wealth and not the morals of people. The eyes are also set in the valley of ashes where the poor lived and it represents the hollowness of the American dream and that its a big lie and that that gold will turn into ashes. Corruption of the American society/dream. Tom go on his affairs with Myrtle, watches Gatsby drives to meet Wolfshiem to bootleg, and watches Daisy go find new thrills with Gatsby. The eyes watches how the main characters go in and out of NYC to commit corruption. George said â€Å"God knows what youve been doing, everything youve been doing. You may fool me but you cant fool God†. George is referring to the eyes and how you can fool everyone but the eyes know what you have done and what corruption you have contributed to the American dream. What these main character do shapes how we see the American dream and it tells us it can lead to destruction. The eyes watch as Myrtle’s American dreams died along with her. Eyes see how Myrtle and Toms affair began Watched it grow, watched how desperate she wants to live the American dream. She had it but to only die because of it. She got hit by Toms car and died in front of the eyes. The eyes saw the whole affair between Tom and Myrtle from beginning to end. Mrtyle yearns to live the American dream so she has an affair with Tom. Eventually the American dream caught up to her and she neglected her values and rushed out to a fast moving toms car and got it. This signifies the end of the American dream and shows you that the hollowness of this dream and that one day gold will turn into ashes as Myrtle dies in front of the eyes in the valley of ashes. They eyes of TJ Eckleburg reflects the destruction of the American dream. Like spiritual values, the billboard is neglected, corruption of the American society/dream and the eyes watch as Myrtle’s American dreams died along with her. The eyes of TJ Eckleburg shows us that the American dream is a big lie and that all good things come to an end, that gold can become ash. The corruption and pain that the American dream brings onto you and to others is not wroth that lifestyle.

Crime Among Social Groups Essay -- Crime Social Class Society Violence

Crime Among Social Groups Why are crime rates higher among some social groups than the others? Are some groups more prone to crime, or are they in situations more conducive to crime? Many factors can influence a person to commit a crime, but is there a common trait that leads people down the road to actually committing a crime. Some traits that can influence criminal behavior are: Families, Economic status, Gender, Race, and Age. Married life domesticates but also can cause strain and difficulties. There are new conflicts that arise from people getting married. Often it is the first major decision of one's life and soon there are more bills, more relatives, conflicting plans, children, your spouse might die, and annoying habits that your spouse may have emerge, in most relationships these can all be overcome in time as divorce stats indicate, society is not yet to the point where for every marriage there is a coinciding divorce. "A correlation rises from low incomes, increased uncertainty and fear, and increased personal frustration. These factors put family life under a strain and lead to an increase in child and spouse abuse."1 If these new challenges cannot be overcome then a broken home is the most common result. A broken family can generate in different ways, death, separation, divorce. These are the most common but not all possible reasons for a broken home. There are two ways to observe a break in a fa mily: Husband-wife and Parent- Child. "In addition, less than one-third (31%) of the inmates were married at the time of admission to a correctional facility, compared with almost two-thirds (63%) of adults aged 18 and over in the general population."2 The death of a partner can cause an unstable mind in a surviving spouse and their children. Widowed people are chiefly older, so crime is a smaller more limited problem with the survivors. Younger widows tend to migrate to different cities, females generally moving west and males moving east. This migration, as we will call it, of widowed women overcrowding cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington cause desperate males to follow women to these cities. Knowing that widows are usually left with money through life insurance policies and inheritance from their deceased partners, less fortunate people envy the cash and see the dense population of female widows as being easy victims. Grendel’s Self Discovery Essay

Throughout the novel Grendel goes back and forth between the two beliefs nihilism and existentialisms. Through the journey of figuring out the belief in life, he struggles for being a cultural outsider. Gardner makes it tough for Grendel to make a decision because just like Grendel there are other cultural outsiders like the Dragon who shares his philosophy with him. Philosophies of life have a wide variety for people to choose from like in Grendel by John Gardner. The main character, Grendel, travels on a journey of self-discovery, eventually becoming a nihilist, and by the hero Beowulf was defeated. Grendel struggles with his own meaning of life between â€Å"being† and â€Å"nothingness. † With influence from others like the Dragon, Beowulf, and the Queen, Grendel switches between beliefs based off two philosophers named Jean-Paul Sartre and Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi. The philosophy that is existentialism is â€Å"a philosophical movement which exercised an influence on many of the arts as well as on philosophy and psychology. The belief in people have free will and can choose what they want to be is in other words what existentialism. Existentialism was a philosophical movement that dealt with the ideas of the way of life by many philosophers such as Jean-Paul Sartre. Sartre did not agree with traditional arguments of human nature he argued that in the case of human beings â€Å"existence precedes essence. † In his famous quote, the meaning is that humans have no set or fixed nature that determines what they will do. After leaving his mother’s cave, he is free to an entirely different world, a world of humans and other creatures, â€Å"I played my way farther out into the world†¦ cautiously darting from tree to tree challenging the terrible forced of night on tiptoe. †(16). As a defense against the rest of the universe, Grendel establishes existentialism as his philosophy. Grendel discovers that the creatures that he watches share a common language and thought. This is when Grendel meets characters like the Shaper and Hrothgar, both of whom help shape his early belief of existentialism. May it be the destroyer of Hrothgar, or perhaps a somewhat benign antihero. The belief in Nihilism is the viewpoint that life is meaningless. There is no purpose to life because it will come and go. Nihilism is the more extensive version of determinism. That of which is a person’s main purpose in life is already mapped out for them and they cannot change it. Nihilism is the total opposite of existentialism, it is the view of having no purpose and existentialism is finding your own purpose. In a way, you can look it as binary opposition because nihilism could be evil and existentialism could be good. In Grendel, Grendel comes in to the presence of the Dragon. Through his conversation with the Dragon, Grendel is taught nihilism. The Dragon believes that all things in the universe will end and are therefore meaningless and discounts existentialism as a philosophy and nihilism as the absolute truth. The idea that nothing lasts forever and will die is the philosophy of the dragon, â€Å"The beginning, the present, the end. All time, all space. (62, 63) The Dragons conversation pursues Grendel on his philosophy of life that everything comes and goes â€Å"In a billion billion billion years, everything will have come and gone several times, in various forms† (70). These two different philosophies dictated Grendel’s life from start to finish. He was neither truly Nihilistic nor Existential, because he was a creation of both. His early experiences led to an Existential belief and his later ones a Nihilistic one. These conflicting ideas ultimates led to his ultimate peace, â€Å"Is it Joy I feel? † and his ultimate destruction. (173) Or are they the same thing?

Why Do We Have Government - 1081 Words

Elizabeth Taylor Response Paper #3 POLS 2312; Dr. Sledge May 7, 2015 Response Paper #3 Why do we have government? The main answer to the question regarding the existence of government and the constitution is the simple, â€Å"political communities create a government as a means of addressing the problems the individual (s), citizens cannot consistently and effectively address on their own.† Government and all the rules we have now are implemented to not only protect citizens from other citizens, but from individuals harming themselves.
